Donald William Epple, age 90, of rural Montrose, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
He was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Montrose, the son of William and Minnie Wandersee Epple.
Donald was joined in holy marriage with Delores A. Dixon Sept. 18, 1948, at the Rockford Presbyterian Church. God blessed their marriage with three children.
Donald lived his entire life on the family’s homestead in Franklin Township, where he engaged in dairy farming for many years.
He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, telling stories and jokes, and traveling.
Donald was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Montrose, and formerly sang in the church choir.
He also was a longtime Delano Creamery Board member and served on the Cassel Cemetery Board.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Delores; children: Dennis (Piedad) Epple, Diane (Terry) Rux, all of Montrose, and Donna (Tim) Cobb of Weiser, ID; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Agnes Dixon of Buffalo; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; three brothers; and by his father-in-law and mother in law, George and Beatrice Dixon.
Funeral services took place Thursday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Montrose. Interment followed at Cassel Cemetery in rural Delano.
Visitation was Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, and continued Thursday, one hour prior to the services.
Casket bearers were Roy Smith, Daynor Smith, Greg Bersie, Herman Epple, Robert Epple, and James Epple.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
