Leona Katherine (Schaust) Fake, age 92, of Delano, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Leona was born May 18, 1918, in Franklin Township, the oldest child of Anthony and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust.
She was united in marriage to George Fake and together, they had six children.
A caring, loving mother, Leona was also active in the Delano Catholic Church, serving in a variety of ways, including the Rosary Society, and Catholic Aid, including more than 17 years as its secretary.
Shea was employed for over 40 years with the Delano municipal liquor store, of which she was manager for over 20 years.
Leona was the organizing force for the Pogreba family reunion every year.
She enjoyed spending time in her backyard, loving the sounds of the birds that would come; watering her flowers outside, as well as her ferns and flowers inside; and baking oatmeal cookies.
Leona looked forward to spending time with her family. She touched many lives and so loved helping people, and will be missed my many.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, George; son-in-law Calvin Butler; grandson Jeff Breuer; brother Anthony Schaust; sister Betty Gabrelcik; half-sister Mathilda Florek; and brothers-in-law Richard Gabrelcik, Ambrose Farniok, and Glen Litfin.
She is survived by her children, Carol Butler of St. Petersburg, FL, George and Kris Fake, Ron and Mary Fake of Willmar, Mary and Ed Raser, Rose and Roger Schadow, and Kevin and Geri Fake; 14 grandchildren and spouses: Alan and Cindy Butler, Brian Butler, Debra and Dan Hoen, Joe and Jane Fake, Theresa and Jim Schultz, David Fake, Dan Fake, Steve Raser, JoAnne Raser, Jason and Andrea Raser, Chrissy and Jeremy Burr, Cassie and Willy Shaw, Briana Fake, Jessa Fake; and 13 great-grandchildren: Robert Hoen, Larissa Hoen, Jacob Hoen, Samantha Fake, Julia Fake, Lily Fake, Erin Schultz, Adam Schultz, Aidon Sheridan, Beau Breuer, Payton Breuer, Emily Butler, and Ashley Butler.
Leona is further survived by siblings and spouses Lauren and Dorothy Schaust, Joe and Lorraine Schaust, George and Joan Schaust, Genevieve “Gene” Farniok, Arlene Litfin, Leonard and Maxine Schaust, and Matt and Estelle Schaust; and a sister-in-law, Delores Schaust.
Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, May 12 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Christopher Wenthe officiating. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
