Ruby M. Gabrielson, 93

Ruby Mildred Gabrielson, age 93, of Litchfield, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.

She was born June 12, 1915, in Dassel, the daughter of Magnus and Lisa (Hemmingson) Oberg.

Ruby graduated from Dassel High School and attended Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul.

She worked for Meeker County in the assessor’s office.

Ruby was united in marriage to Virgil Gabrielson June 27, 1947, in Litchfield. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

A charter member of the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, Ruby spent her life attending to her family and her faith.

She taught each of her grandchildren how to play kickball, hide the thimble, and how to bake chocolate chip cookies. There was always time to play a game of Uno, Sorry, or a modified version of Trivial Pursuit.

She also took time to share her faith and tried to help guide all of her loved ones to a good path in this world. She was easy to talk with and always had time for a cup of coffee and a visit.

Ruby will be remembered for her faith, her love and kindness, her wit and humor, and of course, her cookies.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie (and Warren) Johnson of Champlin; sons Paul (and Michelle) Gabrielson, Donald (and Sandy) Gabrielson, and John (and Cheryl) Gabrielson, all of Litchfield; grandchildren Chad (and Kim) Johnson, Sean (and Gina) Johnson, Kris (and Lynn) Johnson, Sarah (and Kyle) Lenzen, Bridget (and Russell) Nurkkala, Michael (and Aimee) Gabrielson, Lisa (and Wayne) Skinner, Todd (and Jessicah) Gabrielson, Jacob, Nicholas, and Gina Gabrielson, Justin Gabrielson, Jennifer (and Chad) Steinhaus, and Matthew Gabrielson; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil; her parents; sisters Bernice Floren, Louise Gabrielson, Doris Johnson, and Dorothy Oberg; brothers Harold Oberg, Carl Oberg, Hubert (Bud) Oberg, and Marvis Oberg; great-grandson Trevin Gabrielson; and nephews Gary Gabrielson and Chuck Gabrielson.

Funeral services took place Friday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Harvey Nelson officiating. Interment was at Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
