Lester J. Gerard, 96

Lester J. Gerard, age 96, of Delano, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Delano.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Delano with Father Christopher T. Wenthe as celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Waconia.

Visitation is Monday, Dec 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Delano, and will continue Tuesday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Lester was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Charboneau, ND, the son of Fred J. and Melvina (Papineau) Gerard.

He was united in marriage to Marie vanderHagen April 3, 1945, at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Loretto.

Lester was the president of the Delano School Board for 15 years, and a member for 25 years. He also served as a trustee at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Loretto for many years.

He enjoyed working with wood, making tables and clocks. He had a green thumb, spending a good amount of time in the garden.

Lester was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He had a quick wit, and loved to joke and play pranks on many people.

Lester volunteered at Westview Acres in Waconia, and loved to visit with anyone.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; parents Fred and Melvina Gerard; brother Alvin Gerard; and sister Katie Novotny.

Lester is survived by his loving family: children and spouses, Jeanne and Bob Femrite of Bella Vista, AR, Jim and Kay Gerard of Delano, and Kathleen and Marco Harroun of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren Jacquie and Troy Dean, Lara and Dave Carson, Tim Femrite, Scott Gerard, Michelle Gerard and fiancé Kevin Sydloski, and Patrick Harroun; and great-grandchildren Ian Carson, and Holli Carson.

He is further survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Lee Balistrieri of West Allis, WI; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Georgia Gerard Snicker of Perham, and Ray Klaers of Rialto, CA; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
