Arlene Christene Groves, age 94, passed away May 27, 2010 in Arizona.
She was born at home in Cokato Township Oct. 30, 1915 to Arthur and Effie (Stenberg) Swan. She grew up on the farm.
Her family attended the Elim Mission Church in Cokato, Arlene was confirmed there in 1929. Arlene attended Melquist School and graduated from Cokato High School, she went on to Normal Teachers training and taught school around Cokato.
Arlene married Wallace Lowell Groves. The couple lived in Cokato for a time, and then moved to Minneapolis, Wallace worked for the Great Northern Railroad.
While in Minneapolis, Arlene worked as an insurance adjuster for the Mutual of Omaha Company.
In 1978, Arlene and Wallace moved back to Cokato. She was a very active member of the Walker United Methodist Church of Howard Lake, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
About a year and a half ago, Arlene moved to Arizona to be near her daughter, Faye. Arlene passed away there on May 27, 2010. She had reached the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
Survivors include son Garland (Marlys) Groves, daughter Faye (Bob) Smith, 11 grandchildren and spouses, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, parents Art and Effie Swan, and grandson David DaMart.
A memorial service will be at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato Saturday June 19 at 1 p.m. Interment will be at the Sylvin Cemetery north of Cokato.
