Gordon LeRoy Gruenhagen, age 72, of Howard Lake, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
A life-long resident of Howard Lake, Gordy had an insurance business out of his home. He was active in the community and in the church, and touched the lives of so many people.
His hard work ethic, positive attitude, and his love of life will live on in his survivors, which include his wife of 52 years, Helen (Wawrzyniak) Gruenhagen; children Julie (Terry) Malone, Sandra (Kevin) Wolfley, Toni (Jay) Squires, and Bob (Carla) Gruenhagen; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by a brother, Sam (Evy) Gruenhagen; and sisters Karen Jennings, Ruth (Jim) Baird, Lorie Gruenhagen, and Lois (Steve) Carley; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Leo Gruenhagen; an infant sister, Alice; and a grandson, Elliot Olk.
A service celebrating Gordy’s life took place Saturday, April 17 at 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
Visitation was Friday, April 16 from 5-8 p.m. at Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
