Donna Margaret Irene Magoon Hansen, age 83, of Litchfield, died at her home Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Red Oak, IA, the daughter of Swan and Clara “Kay” (Jones) Anderson. Donna grew up in Cass Lake, MN, where she received her education.
She was united in marriage to Roy E. Magoon March 2, 1946, in Cass Lake. The couple moved back and forth between Cass Lake and Omaha before settling in Minneapolis in 1951.
They moved to Grove City in 1960, and Dassel in 1964, where they lived for 20 years.
In 1984, they moved to Litchfield, where Roy died in 2002.
Donna was united in marriage to Russell Hansen March 20, 2004, in Litchfield.
She was an active church member everywhere she lived, serving in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, the Swan Lake Lutheran Church in Dassel, the New Life Assembly of God Church in Cokato, and the A/G Lighthouse Church in Litchfield. Donna shared her faith in many ways throughout her life, including jail ministry, and serving as a church deacon, a Sunday school teacher, president of the Women Aglow, and president of the A/G District Women’s Ministry.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing dominoes, quilting, writing poetry, singing and yodeling, and spending time with her family and friends. Donna was also active as a Cub Scout den mother, taught first aid training courses in Minneapolis, founded the “Queen For A Day” event for cancer patients, and started the Women’s Tea Ministry in her home in Litchfield.
She was a member of the American Cancer Society and the Litchfield Library Board.
Donna is survived by her children; Charles (and Nancy) Magoon of New Richmond, WI, Karen (and Daniel) Mohlin of Willmar, Glenn (and Jacque) Magoon, Garry (and Dawn) Magoon, Gregg Magoon, all of Litchfield, Colleen (and Thomas) Garrity of Laconia, NH, Colette (and Kenneth) Bolster of Dassel, John (and Mary) Magoon of Royalton, and Mark (and Joyce) Magoon of Litchfield; foster daughter Nancy (and Gerald) Londroche of Atlanta, GA; stepchildren Loren (and Myrna) Hansen of Apple Valley, and Iris (and Mac) Baird of Roseville; 26 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one foster granddaughter; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Donna is further survived by a brother, Richard (and Marilyn) Anderson of Burr, NE; sisters Carol Ann (and Don) Hall of West Point, NE, and Janice Lee (and Larry) Castleberry of Canton, TX; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her first husband, Roy Magoon, she was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russel in 2007; brother Mervin “Andy” Anderson; infant brother Swan Harlan Anderson; and a grandson, Michael.
Funeral services took place Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at the A/G Lighthouse Church in Litchfield, with Pastor Christopher Castilleja officiating. Interment was at Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, and continued Wednesday for one hour before the service at the church.
