Norman Levi Holmquist, age 90, of Dassel, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
The funeral service will be Monday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. Harvey Peterson will be the organist. The soloist, Sheldon Hedin, will sing “On Eagles Wings” and “It Is Well With My Soul.” Congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment will be at the Lake Jennie Covenant Cemetery, rural Dassel.
There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service Monday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is in charge of arrangements.
Norman was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Dassel, the son of Levi and Freda (Anderson) Holmquist. He grew up in the Dassel area, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Covenant faith.
He graduated from the Dassel High School.
Norman was united in marriage to Mae Anderson June 5, 1954, at the Solem Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN. The couple made their home on the Holmquist farm, where they raised their two children.
Norman was a third-generation farmer on the home farm.
He enjoyed spending time gardening and farming, and appreciated nature and the animals on the farm.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; his parents; and his sister, Irene Holmquist.
A dedicated husband and father, Norman missed his wife, Mae deeply. He was highly responsible and patient in everything he did.
He was presently a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
Norman is survived by his children, John (Lisa) Holmquist of Dassel, and Cindy (Russ) Hall of Duluth.
