Marcella Jans, 89

Funeral services celebrating the life of Marcella Martha Emilie Trocke Jans, age 89, of Watertown, took place Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Prairie Community Church UCC in Lester Prairie. Marcella died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

She was born Oct. 6, 1920, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Bachmann) Kroells, in Lester Prairie. Marcella was baptized Nov. 14, 1920, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie by Rev. Witzke, and later confirmed into the faith at the same church April 14, 1935, by Rev. Becker.

Marcella completed her education in eighth grade.

She was united in marriage with William F. Trocke Dec. 8, 1937, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie. This marriage was blessed with four children.

On June 16, 1990, Marcella was united in marriage with Vernon Jans at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie.

In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Marcella enjoyed dancing and listening to old time music, traveling, sewing, and embroidery. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Anna Kroells; husbands William Trocke and Vernon Jans; grandchild Carol Hanson; sister Hilda Dose; and brother Melvin Kroells.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Telthoester (Reuben) of Arlington, Donald Trocke (Geraldine) of Bloomington, Janice Raddatz (Quentin) of Belle Plaine, and Karen Karow of Oconomowoe, WI; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ella Zuehl of Winsted, and Eveline Wendorf of Waconia; brothers and sisters-in-law Alida Quinn of Edina, Glen Trocke (Laverne), Gertrude Heuer, all of Hamburg; Mae Zehnder of Plato, and Hillard Kroells of Norwood Young America; as well as many other relatives and friends.

The Rev. Bill Baldwin officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Sonja Johnson. Congregational hymns were “Walk in the Garden,” “I am But a Stranger Here,” and “Just as I Am.” Interment followed in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.

Visitation took place one hour prior to the service at the church.

Serving as casket bearers were Dean Telthoester, William Karow, Curtis Raddatz, Keith Mueller, Lynn Klug, and Pamela Johnson.
