Sherwin J. “Sherm” Junker, age 74, of St. Bonifacius, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at St. Mary’s Senior Living Center in Winsted.
Sherwin was born Dec. 15, 1935, in Amherst, SD, the son of Adolph and Mathilda Junker.
He was united in marriage to Janie Holey Jan. 11, 1960.
Sherm loved to watch the Twins and Vikings. He was a sponsor for many of the baseball teams and pool teams in St. Bonifacius.
Sherm was also a huge supporter of the MS Foundation, raising funds on a yearly basis, along with his daughters.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Sherm was known for his kindness, humor and trust, and considered a legend by his family members. Everything he had, he fought for, including his life. He will be greatly missed.
Sherm was preceded in death by his wife, Janie; daughter Tamara Junker; parents Adolph and Mathilda Junker; and brothers Clarion “Bud” Junker and Leland Junker.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Perry and Brenda Junker of Delano, Tanya and Jeff DeYonge of Glencoe, Stephanie and Jeff Schultz of Watertown, and Trenny Junker of Waconia; and grandchildren Sherman Junker, Cody Junker, Carly Junker, Clarissa Junker, Christal and Mario Velazquez, Bobbie and Luke Erickson, Joshua DeYonge, Kayla DeYonge, Kenny Thurk, Cameron Schultz, Collin Schultz, and Jakki Junker.
Sherm is further survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Merl and Sue Junker of Colorado, Joanne Mies of Kansas, Elura Doyle of Florida, Dean and Debbie Junker of Colorado, Phyllis Junker of Eden Prairie, Sandy and Jim Brown of Farmington, Norna and Terry Ochs of South Dakota; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law David and Judy Holey of Marshall, Danny Holey of Chaska, Timothy and Lorie Holey of Britton, SD, Nancy Raddohl of Chaska, and Kitty and Bruce Johnson of Britton, SD; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was Saturday, May 22 at noon at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
An additional service will take place Thursday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at the Price Funeral Home in Britton, S.D., with interment at the Britton Cemetery in Britton, SD.
Sherm’s loving grandchildren are his casket bearers.
