Laura A. Karels, age 69, of Waverly, died unexpectedly Monday, July 26, 2010, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Franklin Township, to Jacob and Margaret (Pillatzke) Bokusky.
Laura was a woman who put others before herself.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George “Shorty” Karels Sr.; grandchildren Dale Karels Jr., and Melissa Ann Karels; parents Jacob and Margaret Bokusky; sibling Leo Bokusky; brothers-in-law Donald Kowalke, John Jansen, Leon Zachman, Joe Glunz, and Dwayne Pylka; and a sister-in-law, Florence Marketon.
Laura is survived by her sons and spouses, Roger and Karen Karels, George and Ann Karels, Tom and Tonya Karels, John and Kim Karels, Bruce and Holly Karels, Daryl and Shannon Karels, Marvin and Gayle Karels, Dale and Laura Karels, and Jacob and Angie Karels; daughters Brenda Amundson and special friends Larry, Diane and Steve Hoiland, Susie and David Brown, and Roseann and Dave Lent; 52 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by siblings and spouses, Edward and Gerri Bokusky, Mary Kowalke, Helen and Leo Neaton, Louie Bokusky, and Joseph and Diane Bokusky; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Geraldine Jansen, Lorayn Zachman, Ed Marketon, Mary Ann and George Uecker, and Mark and Giny Karels.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly with the Rev. Timothy Cloutier officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, July 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Parish Center with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
