Dorothy Marie Lampi, age 92, of Annandale, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Park View Care Center, Buffalo.
She was born June 12, 1918, in Cokato, to Fred and Anna (Hurula) Nelson.
Dorothy married Martin Lampi Aug. 19, 1939, in Cokato, and he preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1993.
Dorothy and Martin lived at West Albion, where they farmed and managed the West Albion Co-op Store. Dorothy helped Martin for many years on the farm and in the auction business by running the lunch wagon. She also worked in the lunch program for Annandale Schools.
Dorothy was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Minnesota Auctioneers Auxiliary, and Cokato Finnish-American Historical Society. She enjoyed her three trips to Finland and other travels throughout the United States.
All her life, Dorothy loved socializing with friends in neighborhood groups and, more recently, at Centennial Villa, where she lived for the last seven years. Spending time with her family, and especially her great-grandchildren, was the light of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Deanna (Brian) Hedman of Annandale; son Tom (Dayle) Lampi of Annandale; grandchildren Mitch Hedman, Michelle (LeRoy) Wurm, Trent (Kara) Lampi, and Mark (Lynn) Lampi; great-grandchildren Jordan, Morgan and Raegan Wurm; and Claudia, Justin, Connor, Claire and Olin Lampi; sisters Mildred Nelson of Annandale, and Shirley Tyni of Van Nuys, CA; and a brother, Donald (Bertha) Nelson of Cokato.
In addition to her husband, Martin, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Compton and Alice Hoikka; and brothers Ralph, Harry, and Carl Nelson.
Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, French Lake, with the Rev. Edward Groop officiating. Music was provided by Carol Hobert and Margaret Groop. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in French Lake Township.
Friends called Thursday, Dec. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale, with a 7 p.m. prayer service; and Friday, at the church, one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers were Mitch Hedman, Michelle and LeRoy Wurm, Trent, Kara, Mark and Lynn Lampi; and Jerry Hoikka.
