Marie Jeanette (Anderson) Larson, age 94, of Cokato, formerly of Dassel, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Cokato Manor.
She was born July 6, 1915, in Dassel, the daughter of Reuben and Mabel (Nyberg) Anderson. Marie was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.
She graduated from Dassel High School in 1933, and from the University of Minnesota in 1937, with honors, and a degree in home economics education.
Marie was married to Wayne Larson Sept. 15, 1938, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. They were blessed with two daughters.
Marie began her teaching career at the Cokato Public School in 1937. Following her marriage, she set aside her teaching career as she and Wayne owned and operated Larson’s Grill in Cokato for five years. There, they did their own cooking, baking, and even made all of their own homemade ice cream.
In 1948, Marie returned to teaching, this time at the Dassel Public School. The following year, she returned to teaching in Cokato and remained on the faculty there until her retirement in 1982.
As a teacher, Marie touched the lives of many, many young people in the community, as well as many adults through her very popular evening adult cooking classes.
In this world, there are givers and takers. Marie was definitely a giver. She volunteered at Cokato Manor for many years, leading reminiscing groups; and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Monday Club.
A long-time, faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato, Marie served in many ways including Circle, Bible study, on serving groups, at the church’s Corn Carnival stand, and cleaning ovens!
She loved being with her family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy to her. Marie loved entertaining and having friends and family around her dining room table.
She is survived by her daughters, Maxine (Paul) Persson of Randolph, NJ, and Ann (John “Tony”) Anthonisen of Richfield; five grandchildren, Kristin Persson of San Diego, CA, David M. Persson of Antioch, CA, Erik (Marna) Anthonisen of Fergus Falls, Karin (Tom) Burke of Minnetonka, and Peter Anthonisen of Bloomington; eight great-grandchildren, David P. and Michael Persson of Denville, NJ, Clara, Mary, Tommy and Elizabeth Burke of Minnetonka, and Anders and Siri Anthonisen-Brown of Fergus Falls; sisters Wincie Haapala of Dassel, and Jean Appleyard of Denver, CO; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Rueben and Mabel; and a brother, Bob.
