Gordon H. Lemke, age 83, of Mora, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Foley Nursing Center in Foley.
He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Annandale, to Charles and Sarah (Uecker) Lemke. Gordon was baptized Jan. 8, 1928, and confirmed May 18, 1941, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Annandale.
Gordon attended Annandale School through the 10th grade. His family then moved to Howard Lake, and he graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1945.
After high school, Gordon enlisted in the US Army and served his country from Nov. 28, 1945, to April, 1947, in Germany.
Upon returning home, he met Margie Diers, and they married June 13, 1950. One daughter, Nancy, was born to them.
Gordon worked for Armour & Company, and later became a truck dispatcher for LaSalle Trucking Company in St. Paul, from where he retired in 1980.
Gordon and Margie first purchased a farm in Rogers, and later moved to a farm near Mora. After retirement, Gordon devoted his time to raising beef cattle and farming.
In 1989, Gordon and Margie moved to a small farm in Comfort Township, just south of Mora, and built their dream retirement home.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald; a brother-in-law, Clarence Chouinard; a nephew, Thomas Lemke; and a son-in-law, Paul Spehar.
He is survived by his wife, Margie, of Foley; daughter Nancy (Gary) Sobas of Mora; grandchildren Katie Sobas of Minnetonka, Jennie Sobas of Superior, WI, and Brian (Sarah) Sobas of Fridley; a sister, Elaine Chouinard of Eden Prairie; a sister-in-law, Dolores Lemke of Howard Lake; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, Dec. 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Foley with the Rev. T. J. Rehwaldt officiating. Music was provided by Kathy Jacquemart. Interment was in the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Katie Sobas, Jennie Sobas, Brian Sobas, Wayne Diers, Wayne Lemke and Lyle Lemke.
