Luverne Marguirite Martin, age 96, of Cokato, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
She was born April 18, 1914, in Iowa, the daughter of Leon and Cora (Smith) Lipkie. Luverne grew up and graduated from high school in Iowa.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and had attended church services at the Evangelical Covenant Church and Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.
Luverne worked for many years in her aunt’s dress shop, “Fallon’s,” on Broadway in Minneapolis. She had also worked as a sales associate in the downtown Minneapolis Dayton’s Department Store.
Luverne was united in marriage to Ralph Edwin Martin April 28, 1979. They shared 31 years of marriage, and made their home in the Cokato and Dassel areas.
Luverne enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved traveling around the US in their many campers. She also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden.
Luverne was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, April 28, 2010; her parents; and a brother, LaJoy Lipkie.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Tom) Hunter of Minneapolis, step-daughter Lynn Kallio of New Hope, grandchildren Shelly (Nick) Mattson, and Erin Hunter; great-grandchildren Mikayla Mattson and Logan Mattson; step-grandchildren Elizabeth Kallio, and Mark Kallio; a sister, Shirley Wolfe of Utah; and numerous other family and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with a time to gather with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. John Peterson officiated, and interment was at the Dassel Community Cemetery.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
