Janet Evelyn Menke, age 85, of Bandon, OR, formerly of Cokato, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010.
She was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Reynold and Evelyn (Steinbauer) Malmquist.
Janet grew up in Minneapolis, and graduated from South High School in 1942.
She married Henry Phillip Menke June 9, 1951, and they made their home in Minneapolis until 1968, when they moved to a farm northwest of Cokato.
Janet worked in Cokato as a deputy registrar for more than 20 years before becoming a home care worker.
She was a member of Eastern Star.
In 2003, Janet moved to Bandon, OR to be closer to her son.
Janet had a passion for cooking and baking. She especially loved to share the dozens of Christmas cookies she made every year with her friends and family. She also enjoyed knitting with her friends in Oregon, and donating many afghans they made to a local crisis center there.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Reynold and Evelyn Malmquist; her brother, Jon; her husband, Henry; and three infant daughters.
She is survived by a son, Jon Menke; grandchildren Nicole (Jeremy) Tupa, and Harrison Menke; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Joseph, and Vincent Tupa.
Janet will be interred at Sunset Cemetery in French Lake Township.
