Florence Rosaline Merrill, age 94, of Silver Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Cedar Crest of Silver Lake.
She was born Oct. 29, 1916, on a farm north of Silver Lake, to Michael and Anna (Greshowiak) Mikolichek.
Florence grew up in rural Silver Lake, attended country school, and graduated from Silver Lake public school. She then attended teachers training and taught country school for several years.
Florence also worked at the Silver Lake Leader, and part time as a clerk at the post office in Silver Lake.
She was united in marriage to Delbert Merrill June 16, 1936, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake. To this union, three children were born.
The family lived in Silver Lake, where Florence was a faithful member of her church and was active in the Rosary Society and CCW. She was also a member of the Degree of Honor, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Senior Citizens; and served as a volunteer at the Senior Dining site for many years.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Jeanie (Charlie) Smoldt of Cokato; four grandchildren: Barret (Julie) Neuhaus, Nicole (Mitch) Boswell, Kimberly (Devon) Dejno, and Charles “Chachi” D. (Colleen) Smoldt; five great-grandchildren: Erica, Grace, Noah, Hayden and Kaesen; step-grandchildren Nancy and Sara; and step-great-grandchildren Robyn and Kelsey; and a son-in-law, Denis Hofstetter of Sturgeon Bay, WI.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Anna Mikolichek; an infant son, Michael; her husband, Delbert, in 1989; a daughter, Rose Ellen Hofstetter in 2008; a granddaughter, JoAnne Smoldt; brothers Joe and Albin; and a sister, Helen.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with Fr. Tony Stubeda, celebrant. Burial was in St. Adalbert’s Catholic Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Maresh Funeral Chapel in Silver Lake, with a parish prayer service at 5 p.m., followed by a Rosary Society rosary; and continued Thursday at the Maresh Funeral Chapel for one hour prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers were Barret Neuhaus, Nicole Boswell, Kimberly Dejno, Charles D. Smoldt, Denis Hofstetter, and Don Ondracek.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
