Richard Allen Miest, age 82, of Hutchinson, was called home Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, after a four-month battle with cancer at Burns Manor.
He was born April 10, 1927, in St. Paul, to August and Myrtle Miest. Richard resided in Hayfield, MN, and was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church there. He later moved to St. James, MN, and at the age of 12, to Cokato, where he was confirmed at the Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Richard attended Dewey school and then went to the University of Minnesota Ag. School until his father got rheumatic fever, and he went home to begin 35-plus years of farming. Later in life, he drove school bus for Dassel-Cokato schools.
Richard was united in marriage to Elaine Ann Leske of Hutchinson Nov. 1, 1952. They enjoyed 57 years of blessed marriage.
Richard enjoyed collecting toy tractors, the computer, and reading. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Hutchinson Lions Club, and served with Meals-on-Wheels, and on his church council.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; mother- and father-in-law Ralph and Emma Leske; sisters-in-law Bev Powers and Lois Leske; and brother-in-law Jack Powers.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mavis and Ray Muckala of Mound; brother-in-law Roger Leske of Hutchinson; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment followed at the Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
