Iona Hilda Miller, age 87, of of Cokato, formerly of Howard Lake, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 26, 1922, to Ida and John Boeckelman in Wellsville, MO.
Iona grew up and attended school in Wellsville, graduating in May of 1940. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville.
Iona was married to Morris Miller Sept. 1, 1942, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The marriage was blessed with five children: Rodney (Katherine) Miller, Larry (Diane) Miller, all of Howard Lake, Connie Brown of South St. Paul, Nancy (Lawrence) Andrews of South St. Paul, and Wayne (Sandra) Miller of Moorhead.
Iona and Morris farmed and raised their children in Johnson, MN from 1947 to 1980. They retired and moved to Howard Lake, where they resided until Morris’s death in 2003. Iona lived in Cokato Charitable Trust facilities since then.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN, active in Ladies Aid. While living in Howard Lake, she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose, and also volunteered at the Wise Penny Thrift Shop in Buffalo.
Iona’s life activities were a reflection of her faith in the Lord and the love of her family.
She is survived by her five children; 15 grandchildren: Greg, Pam, Sandi, Russ, Brad, Michelle, Amanda, Melissa, Matthew, Megan, Michael, Ryan, Brenda, Brent, and Nate; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Boeckelman of Wellsville, MO; and a sister, Verda Seville of Valley Park, MO.
Services took place Sunday, March 7 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose, with burial in the church cemetery.
Iona’s eight grandsons were pallbearers.
