Lillian M. Munson, 94

Lillian Mabelle (Bowen) Munson, age 94, of Howard Lake, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 17, 2010, at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Facility.

She was born Dec. 16, 1915, in rural Sedan, MN.

Lillian completed 11 years of school in Sedan, and graduated from Glenwood High School, after which she went on to get her teaching certificate for normal school.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Munson Aug.15, 1934, in Dassel. Lillian and Floyd celebrated 75 years of marriage together, and God blessed their marriage with six children.

Lillian was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake, where she was a deacon, taught Sunday school, and was an active member of the Presbyterian Women’s Association. Faith in God and devotion to her family were the center of her life.

She enjoyed traveling in the family motor home, especially to Florida, where she enjoyed shelling; and Lake of the Woods, where she could catch walleyes and pick blueberries. She also liked to spend time tending to her flower gardens, and spent hours knitting for her many family members.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Floyd; children: Beryl (Carolyn) Munson of Medina, Cleo (Robert) Friederichsen of Buffalo, Robert (LouAnn) Munson of Howard Lake, Mary Beth (Dennis) Reiners of Mitchell, SD, Kristen (Joel) Pettit, and Ray (Patricia) Munson, all of Howard Lake; 15 grandchildren: Mark Friederichsen of Becker, Carla (John) Hausladen of Corcoran, Stephen (Lisa) Friederichsen of St. Louis Park, Philip (Jodi) Munson of Cokato, Paul (Elizabeth) Munson of Grove City, PA, Karen (Sam) Mammano of Webster, NY, Eric (Margaret) Munson of Cokato, Vanessa (Michael) Brandt of Brookings, SD, Amy (Dan) Yager of Howard Lake, Jennifer Larson of Oakdale, Bill (Lisa) Munson of St. Paul, Debbie (Justin) Munson Badini of Marquette, MI, Valerie (Nathan) Johnson of Fergus Falls, Jessie Munson of Memphis, TN, and David (Leah) Pettit of Detroit Lakes; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by siblings Shirley Westphal of Howard Lake, and Verna (Maurice) Kellander of Granada; and sisters-in-law Jean Bowen of Glenwood, Maxine Bowen of Twin Falls, ID, Ruth Bowen of Minneapolis, and Valoris Ferrell of Sedona, AZ.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, William and Vanessa Bowen; and siblings Beth Nemes, Inez Norlien, Alice Ketcham, Truman Bowen, Willard Bowen, Warren Bowen, and Elsie Cummins.

A celebration of Lillian’s life took place Friday May 21, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday, May 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
