Mary Josephine (Heenan) O’Fallon, age 95, of Collinwood Township, Meeker County, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at her home on the farm where she was born, surrounded in her last days by the family she loved.
She was born July 7, 1915, the only child of John and Agnes (O’Fallon) Heenan. She was raised with Anthony Fallon as a brother she loved.
Josephine attended District 49 and Hutchinson High School, graduating in 1933.
She was united to her life friend, Patrick Russell O’Fallon, Oct. 3, 1950, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. They had three children, Therese, Peter and Dennis.
Josephine and Patrick resided on and farmed her family’s home place at Lake Jennie near the other “North Irish” and many great neighbors.
A faith-filled, lifelong member of St. Anastasia Catholic parish in Hutchinson, Jo was proud of working to compile the 100-year history of St. Anastasia parish, published in 1984.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Jo was a longtime member of the St. Anastasia CCW, the Bear Lake Sunshine Club, GAR (Grand Army of Republic) and Birthright. She was also a 4-H Leader and supporter of the Dassel Historical Society.
Jo researched genealogy and local history and enjoyed discussing history and politics; she was a great resource to many. She was also a good cook and enjoyed feeding others.
She is survived by her daughter, Therese O’Fallon of Dassel; sons, Peter O’Fallon and Jackie Olson, and Dennis O’Fallon and wife, Sue (Nelson), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren Kelly Krueger and husband, Mike of Cokato, Meaghan Brown and husband, Lance, and Caitlin O’Fallon and special friend, Zachery Mullan, all of Minneapolis, and Michael O’Fallon and Shannon O’Fallon of Hutchinson; and a great-grandchild, Katarina Brown.
Jo is further survived by a sister-in-law Dorothy (Hamel) O’Fallon of Helena, MT; nieces Patty Eby of Denver, CO, Tina DelVecchio of St. Paul, and Karen Mattingly of Cortland, IL; nephews Donny O’Fallon of Montana; Jim O’Fallon and wife, Elaine of Pullman, WA, Dan O’Fallon and wife, Kathy Timm of Lino Lakes, and John DelVecchio and wife, Robyn of Isanti; great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Heenan; husband Patrick O’Fallon; and “brother” Anthony Fallon; as well as many Irish relatives and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services took place Tuesday, Oct. 26 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson, with interment in St. Anastasia Catholic Cemetery. Father Paul Schumacher officiated at the service. Music was provided by Bev Wangerin, Patti Cogley, Helen Kaul, and Greg Peller (bagpipes). Musical selections included “Hail Mary Gentle Woman,” “In the Garden,” “I Have Loved You,” and “Song Of Farewell.”
Honorary bearers were Mark Bishman, Dick Ebert, Todd Asplin, Ruth Heenan, Jack McCormick, and Tim Fallon.
