Lorene A. Otto Obituary – 12/4/2010


Lorene Alice Otto, age 82, of Winsted, died Saturday, Dec.4, 2010, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Burnstown Township, Brown County, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Lillian Dorow Richert.

Lorene was joined in holy marriage with Gordon W. Otto Sept. 3, 1950, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. God blessed their marriage with three daughters: Janet, Kathleen, and Patricia.

Lorene was formerly employed as chief operator at Northwestern Bell in Marshall. She also worked in admitting at St. Mary’s Hospital, and in the office at Mid-America Dairyman, formerly Pure Milk Products, where she retired in 1990.

Lorene and Gordon owned and operated Otto’s Jewelry Store in Winsted from 1956 until 1983. 

A faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Lorene was also involved with various activities through the years at St. John’s Evangelical  Lutheran Church in Winsted.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Janet (Raymond) Cardinal of Waverly, Kathleen (Allan) Uecker, and Patricia (Aaron) Kubasch, all of Winsted;  grandchildren Jeremy (Chris) Cardinal, John (Kristy) Cardinal, and Jesse Cardinal, Alyssa (Chad) Meger, and Michael Uecker, and Amanda and Brooke Kubasch; great-grandchildren Austin Uecker, Anastasia and Olivia Cardinal, Paige and Ella Meger, and Ryan and Lauren Cardinal; a sister, Doris (Verlin) Dahmes of Alexandria; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon W. Otto March 20, 2006; her parents, Arthur and Lillian Richert; a brother, Martin Richert and his wife, Josephine; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William W. and Elsie I. Otto; and her brother-in-law, Donald Otto and his wife, Mary.

Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin T. Schoenfeld officiating.  Interment followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Honorary casket bearers were Alyssa Meger, Brooke Kubasch, Amanda Kubasch, Chris Cardinal, and Kristy Cardinal.

Casket bearers were Chad Meger, Jeremy Cardinal, Michael Uecker, John Cardinal, and Jesse Cardinal.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
