Marcella S. Paschke, 88

Marcella Susan (Thom) Paschke, age 88, of Faribault, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, after an extended illness.

She was born March 22, 1922, in Walcott Township, Rice County, the youngest child of Christ and Olga (Schramm) Thom. Marcella attended country, Faribault, and Medford schools, graduating from Medford High School in 1940.

She was united in holy marriage to Martin Fritz Paschke Aug. 29, 1940, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. They spent a lifetime together, and were blessed with four children: Lucy (and Ron) Laande of Tigard, OR; Carol (and Jerry) King, Janet (and Jesse) Shirley, all of Faribault; and Ronald (and Lorraine) Paschke of Shakopee. Their extended family includes 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Marcella and Martin shared a very active life in the Faribault community with their family, church, and many friends. Marcella was a proud member of the Trinity Piemakers group and many other organizations through the years.

She looked forward to family events until her last days, especially this holiday season. She was well-known for her needlework, afghans, quilts, dish towel sets, and crocheting.

Marcella enjoyed many activities and interests, including gardening, flowers, sewing, crafts, fishing, hunting, traveling, and music, and she loved to dance.

Martin and Marcella were founding members of the Faribo Sno-go Club and enjoyed their many club adventures. Marcella also loved to be with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and enjoyed special little trips with the “girls” and her sister in her later life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband of 63 years, Martin; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Marcella is survived by her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Durand of Hopkins; two brothers-in-law, Russell Paschke of Winsted, and Bernie Keeley of Ocala, FL; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services took place Saturday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault with the Rev. Steven J. Kuehne officiating. Interment was at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault, and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
