Donald Arthur Pettit, age 81, of Cokato, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born May 23, 1929, in Cokato Township, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Tuey) Pettit. Donald was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Cokato.
Donald married Marjorie Pettit June 28, 1952. They were married for 38 years.
Donald married Gertrude Blackstone Oct. 27, 1990.
Don grew up and lived in the Howard Lake/Cokato area all his life. He owned and worked his dairy farm west of Howard Lake for many years. In his later years he worked at Dura Supreme, and then assisted his son Jay, in his painting business.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Pettit; a brother, Stanley Pettit; a daughter, Judy Dixon (Murray); his sons, Jim Pettit (Shelly), Jay Pettit (Mary), and Jess Pettit (Rita); stepchildren Ardis (Charlie) Quick; Janelle (David) Magck; Melanie (Brian) Lehtola; Wesley (Joanne) Sigman; Marvin Gordon; Lisa (Bradley) Boltz; Justin (Amanda) Blackstone; Linda Knutson; Peggy (Ed Evanson) McNeil; Jim (Denise) Blackstone; and Dennis Blackstone; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Marjorie, Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lillian Pettit; a grandson, Jeremy Pettit; a sister, Myrtle Hardy; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Hardy.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cokato, followed by interment at the Cokato City Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday, Dec. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m., with prayer at 7:30 p.m., at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
