Shirley Quast, age 75, of Winsted, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Winsted, the daughter of Joseph and Amelia (Kallemach) Neumann.
Shirley graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1953.
She married Leander Quast Oct. 15, 1955.
Shirley raised her children, worked on the farm, and worked at other jobs, including in the town bakery, and as an office assistant.
In her retirement, she enjoyed life on the farm where she was born, as well as gardening, travel, playing cards with relatives, and her grandchildren. She was also involved with the McLeod County Food Shelf, and served as township clerk.
Shirley was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
She is survived by her children: Dan Quast of Corcoran, Renee (Francis) Schroeder of Nowthen, Les (Edith Jean) Quast of Hacienda Heights, CA, and Denise (Harold) Weibel of Annandale; four grandchildren: Joe (Cammie) Gagnon of Monticello, Ryan Gagnon of Minneapolis, and Madelyn and Katie Weibel of Annandale; and two great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Noah Gagnon of Monticello.
Shirley is further survived by a brother, Marvin (Marietta) Neumann of Silver Lake; sisters Marcella Castro of California, and Dorothy (Earl) Latzig of Winsted; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Neumann; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leander Quast April 21, 1987; a son, Terence Quast Jan. 2, 1978; brothers William and Joseph; a sister, Elaine Neumann; and a son-in-law, John Gagnon, who died Oct. 14, 1986.
A memorial service took place Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. There was a time of gathering one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
