Wilfred A. “Willie” Rieland, age 91, of Mound, passed away Wednesday June 30, 2010, at his home.
Willie was born Dec. 28, 1918, in St. Cloud, the son of Joseph and Lena (Wheeling) Rieland. He was baptized at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud, and reaffirmed his confirmation into the Lutheran faith May 23, 1947, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Watertown Township by the Rev. John Spomer.
He was an Army veteran of WWII.
Willie was united in marriage to Virginia A. Lohrke Jan. 18, 1947, at her parents’ home in Watertown by the Rev. Waldemar C. Lohrke.
A loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Willie was an avid hunter and fisherman, and always enjoyed the outdoors. He was very proud of his family.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lena Rieland; and a brother, Eugene Rieland.
He is survived by his loving family; wife Virginia “Ginny;” son Steven Rieland and fiancée Sophie Johnson of Mound; daughter Suzanne “Sue” Rieland and partner Susan Braun of Rochester; grandchildren Chris (Janelle) Rieland, and Sarah (Nick) Sundahl; great-granddaughter Paige Rieland; sisters and brother-in-law Viola and Julius Hardt of Wayzata, and Luella Russek of Delano; brothers and sister-in-law Charles Rieland of Delano, and Leroy and Mildred Rieland of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A public memorial graveside service took place Monday, July 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Delano Public Cemetery with the Rev. Merlyn Lohrke officiating, followed by military graveside services by the Delano American Legion.
