Funeral services celebrating the life of Elmer Robert Schwartz, age 92, of Winsted, formerly of Lester Prairie, took place Friday, April 23 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Elmer entered his eternal rest Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born April 14, 1918, in Carver County, the son of Charles and Anna (Wroge) Schwartz. Elmer was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.
He was united in marriage to Mercedes Leske Nov. 14, 1942.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Mercedes Schwartz of Buffalo; daughter Wendy (and Tim) Driscoll of Maple Lake; grandchildren Troy Driscoll (and Carrie Jevnick) and Brandy (and Dan) Larkin; great-grandchildren Joseph, Jacob, Devon and Dylan; sisters-in-law Ruth Schwartz of Waconia, Marion Schwartz of Hutchinson, Leanora (and Chuck) Halstead of Backus, and Darlin Dahlk of Litchfield; as well as other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Lena; daughter Bonnie Schwartz in 1966, brothers Norman Schwartz and Gilbert Schwartz, sisters Helen Roepke and Hilda Schmatz; and sisters-in-law Wenglin “Tookie” Perkins and Delain Vargason.
The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated at the 2 p.m. funeral service, with visitation two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Gerald Schwartz, Donald Schwartz, Duane Schwartz, Daniel Roepke, Ronald Roepke, and Curtis Schmatz.
