Sylvester ‘Cy’ Seymour Obituary – 4/30/2010


Sylvester F. “Cy” Seymour, age 92, of Winsted, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at St. Mary’s Care Center.

He was born April 29, 1918, in Winsted, the son of Earl F. and Rosella M. Schlagel Seymour.

Cy was joined in holy marriage to Elizabeth Mary Kappel Sept. 15, 1939, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Father Wey. God blessed their marriage with two sons. Cy and Elizabeth had just celebrated 70 years of marriage this past September.

Cy was a barber in Winsted for 68 years, beginning in 1941.

He was an avid sportsman; enjoying hunting and fishing. He also played baseball, and enjoyed high school basketball.

Cy was a member of the 1948 AAA Minnesota State Baseball championship team, which was managed by his father, “Bub.”

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, the Winsted Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Order of Foresters, Ducks Unlimited, and the Minnesota Barber Association.

Cy is survived by his sons, Gary F. Seymour and Gregg F. (Kim) Seymour; two grandchildren, Matthew (Penny) Seymour and Kevin Seymour; two step-grandchildren, Mark Ballard and Michael Ballard; three great-grandchildren, Allison, Brady and Cassidy Seymour; sisters Dora Semar and Luella Seymour Taylor; sisters-in-law Melinda and Veronica Kappel; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Seymour, Dec. 25, 2009, his parents, Earl and Rosella Schlagel Seymour; a grandson, Marty Seymour; and a daughter-in-law, Joy Seymour.

A visitation took place Tuesday, May 4 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted from 5 to 8 p.m. Private interment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
