Dorene A. Stender Obituary – 10/2/2010


Dorene A. Stender, age 67, of Mayer, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House in Victoria.

She was born Nov. 22, 1942, in Watertown, the daughter of Martin and Selma (Mielke) Schroeder. Dorene was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.

She was united in marriage to Sheldon H. Stender Sept. 6, 1958, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Henry Weseloh.

A loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, Dorene treasured being with her family, going camping and fishing. She enjoyed reading a good book, and scrap booking.

Dorene is survived by her loving family: husband Sheldon; son Todd Stender of Eden Prairie; daughter and son-in-law Tami and Todd Moeller of Auburn, NE; grandchildren Andrew and Christina Roepke, Nichole Roepke, and Katelynn Moeller; great-granddaughter Alexis Tharaldson; brothers and sisters-in-law Gordon and Darlene Schroeder of New Germany, and Erlen and Mavis Schroeder of Mayer; mother-in-law Lucille Stender of Waconia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Stan and Darlene Stender of Watertown, Sue and Ron Hartwig of Mayer, and Scott and Kim Stender of Waconia; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Selma Schroeder; father-in-law Herbert Stender; brother-in-law Sidney Stender; and nephew Troy Stender.

The funeral service took place Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating. Interment was at St Mark Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, with a chapel service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Michael Hartwig, Nicholas Hartwig, Greg Schroeder, Doug Schroeder, Lyle Schroeder, and Gary Stender.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
