Deanna ‘Dede’ Stevens Obituary – 1/14/2010


Deanna “Dede” Stevens, age 45, of Rockford, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at home.

She was born July 27, 1964, in Minneapolis, the daughter of William and Loretta (Wahlin) Kankelfitz.

Dede was a active supporter and member of the arts.

She was a faithful member of Riverwood Covenant Church in Rockford.

Dede participated in 4 Community Theatre, volunteered at RiverWorks Food Shelf, and sang in “Carpe Diem.”

She is survived by her husband, Ed; children Tasha (Matthew) Rennels, Danielle Dunn, and Sid Wright; her mother, Loretta Smith; siblings Chris (Gary) Rich, Scott (Franke) Kankelfitz, and Lyn (Mike) Silbernagel; half sisters Carrie Kankelfitz-Coach and Angie Ansah; stepsister Missy Nystrom; foster parents William and Eunice Benson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Bonnie Stevens; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and many friends.

Dede was preceded in death by her father, William R. Kankelfitz.

The funeral service was Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. at Our Father’s Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continued Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to RiverWorks Community Development Organization.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
