Casimir ‘Casey’ Stifter Obituary – 5/8/2010


Casimir Joseph “Casey” Stifter, age 83, of Winsted, died Saturday May 8, 2010 at St. Mary’s Senior Living Center in Winsted, with his family at his side.

He was born March 4, 1927, the son of Edward and Gisella (Windisch) Stifter in Winsted Township.

Casey grew up in Winsted, graduating from Holy Trinity Catholic School. He then attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural School.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Irene (Keefe) June 25, 1949, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Casey served in the US Army, in the 6th Infantry division.

He worked hard to provide for his family, and made sure to instill in his children the importance of family.

In retirement he gave back to his earth by planting and caring for many hundreds of trees on his farm.

Casey belonged to the American Legion, VFW, and the Knights of Columbus.

He loved music, hiking, and traveling; and his grandchildren were the light of his life.

Casey is survived by his loving family: children, Steve (Ellen) Stifter, Jim (Cathryn) Stifter, Cathy (Doug) Telecky, all of Winsted, Patty (Kevin) Vergin of Montrose, Mary Jane (Gary Nelson) Reilein of Hutchinson, Ann Marie (Jeffery Kohler) Anderson of Winsted, Paul (Mary) Stifter of Silver Lake, and Matthew (fiancée Sandy Fiecke) Stifter of Howard Lake; grandchildren Travis (Dana), Aaron (Tina), Meganne (Shaun), Lisa ( David), Melissa (Tony), Jolene, Jason (Laura), Damon (Julie), Chad, Rachel, Kimberly, Stephanie, Cassie, Shawna, Heather (Tom), Candice, Benjamin, Joe (Robin), Jessica, and Joshua, and great-grandchildren Xander, Dylan, Allison, Miranda, Casey, MacKenzie, Hayden, Jack, Bryce, Ellie, Olivia, Landon, Keagan, Rileigh, Sophia, Tyler, Chance, Jaden-Ridge, Ethan, Ashton, Jacob, Ethan, and Ava.

He is further survived by brothers William (Alice) Stifter of Maryland, Edward (Audrey) Stifter of Farmington, Richard (Jane) Stifter of Robbinsdale, and Linus (Mary) Stifter of Springfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fr. Gerald Keefe of St. Paul, Dorothy (Bernie) Fasching of Bloomington, Evelyn Sexson of Weskan, KS, and Angie Keefe of St. Paul; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Casey was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Irene; parents Edward and Gisella Stifter; nephew Michael Stifter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gervase Keefe, Daniel Keefe, Iley Sexton, Helen Stifter, and Dr. Jerome (first spouse Dorothy, second spouse Ellen) Keefe.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday May 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Concelebrants were Father Tony Hesse and Father Gerald Keefe. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, May 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Chapel, and continued Thursday one hour prior to the Mass, also at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Aaron Stifter, Jason Telecky, Damon Thompson, Chad Vergin, Josh Stifter, and Benjamin Stifter.
