Emma A. St. John Obituary – 6/12/2010


Emma A. St. John, age 92, of Excelsior, formerly of Mayer, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Excelsior.

She was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Mayer, the daughter of Ernest and Elise (Stark) Koehler. Emma was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer.

She was united in marriage to Earl St. John Feb. 6, 1974, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Excelsior.

Emma was a loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great grandma.

She was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Excelsior, serving as president of numerous food service committees for a number of years. Emma also served on the board of South-Side Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed baking pies, bowling, and camping.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Earl St. John; son Julius Trick Jr.; mother and father, Elise and Ernest Koehler; and a sister, Helen Koehler.

She is survived by her loving family; son and daughter-in-law Donald G. and Irene Trick of Taiwan; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Nick Bowman of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren Stacy and Mike Boatman of Fort Worth, TX, Julius Trick III of Taiwan, and Jenny and Tina of Taiwan; great-grandchildren Cindy Boatman, Michael Boatman, Stephanie and Justin Ireland, and Tiffany Boatman; and great-great-grandchildren Mia and Miley Boatman.

Emma is further survived by her stepchildren, Scott and Tina St. John of Duluth, Wayne and Sandy Skrien of Wrangell, AK, Cheryl St. John of New Hope, Lynne St. John of Minneapolis, Donna St. John of Maple Plain, Jared St. John of Kaneohe, HI, Paul and Doris St. John of Brooklyn Center, and Patryce St. John of Austin, TX; many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Wednesday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Excelsior with the Rev. John Zahrte officiating. Interment was at Woodside Cemetery in Shorewood.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, and continued Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers were Tim Koehler, Ed Fink, Sonny Hasse, Brent Rosengren, and Jim Stender.
