Harold J. Stumpf Obituary – 1/1/2010


Harold J. Stumpf, age 87, of Waverly, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.

He was born May 7, 1922, in Marysville Township, Wright County, the son of Simon and Mary Kretenbrink Stumpf.

Harold was joined in marriage with Polly Hoffman Oct. 6, 1943, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with two daughters.

Harold engaged in dairy farming in Middleville Township for many years.

He was a lifelong member of The Church of St. Mary’s in Waverly.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Mary Lou Sherwin and Doris (Chuck) Huston; six grandchildren: Paula Langer, Tom (Darcy) Sherwin, Kris (Dean) Schwindel, Mark (Jane) Huston, Shannon (Mike) Diers, and Adam (Jody) Huston; great-grandchildren Andy (Ashley) Schwindel, Racheal Schwindel, Scott (Brittany) Schwindel, Dylon and Trevor Sherwin, Carter, Jordan and Morgan Diers, Devon and Cullen Huston, and Connor, Brandon and Brianna Huston; and a great, great-grandson, Brayden Schwindel.

He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Leah Stumpf, Laura Mae Hoffman, Ardis Hoffman, and Francis Hoffman; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly; his parents; and brothers Cletus, Ray, Donald, Elmer, and Harvey Stumpf.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Father Timothy Cloutier was the celebrant, and interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continued Thursday morning for one hour prior to the Mass.

Casket bearers were Harold’s six grandchildren: Paula Langer, Tom Sherwin, Kris Schwindel, Mark Huston, Shannon Diers, and Adam Huston.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
