Lowell Carl Tesch, age 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
He was born April 9, 1924, in Mayer, to Carl and Florence Tesch. Lowell grew up in the Mayer area and attended Mayer public school.
Lowell was married to Shirlee Schafer Oct. 17, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer.
Lowell did various manual labor jobs including farming, hauling milk, and butchering. He also worked in the warehouse at Bongards’ Creamery until he retired.
After retirement, Lowell was custodian of Mayer Lutheran High School and Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, as well as custodian at Minnetonka schools for five years.
Lowell and Shirlee had the privilege of traveling to Germany, the west coast, South Carolina, and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. Lowell also enjoyed gardening and painting ceramics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Florence Tesch; twin brother Lloyd Tesch; sister Phyllis Bjork Raether; brother-in-law Clifford Schroeder; stepdaughter Liana Clark; and step-grandson Alan Asmus.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Shirlee Tesch of Winsted; stepchildren Linda and Larry Heldt of Hutchinson, Robert and Janice Schafer of Shelby Township, MI; Richard and Lynn Schafer of Faribault, Lila Schafer of Reno, NV; and Lisa and the Rev. Aaron Asmus of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers and sisters Grace and Walter Westlund of Waconia, Jane and Leslie Olson, Gerald Tesch, all of Minneapolis, Elaine Nelson of Atwater, Carl F. and Lillie Tesch of Mayer, Lila and Leland Nelson of Atwater, Carol and Elmer Schuette of Howard Lake, Robert and Myrna Tesch of Loyal, WI, and James and Marge Tesch of Howard Lake.
He is further survived by 17 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Mark Loder officiating. Molly Loder served as the organist. Interment followed in Mayer.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.
Casket bearers were John Ahlquist, Eldon Westland, Dan Bjork, Tim Tesch, Kevin Tesch, and Alan Tesch.
