Nita Rose Vandermey, age 54, of Hopkins, formerly of Mazeppa, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 23, 1955, in Belle Fourche, SD, to Charles and Mae (Flaigg) Strohschein.
Growing up, Nita enjoyed visits to her uncle’s ranch in Hoover, SD.
Joe and Nita Vandermey said their wedding vows Nov. 9, 1981, in Cody, WY, promising to stand by each other through good and bad, sickness and health.
Nita was preceded in death by her father, Charles.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Vandermey; children Brandi Vansickel, Lisa Vandermey, and Cole Vandermey; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother Mae Strohschein; brothers Morgan and Marcia Strohschein, Dave Strohschein, and Karl Strohschein; sister Karen Lang; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Nita enjoyed the outdoors; camping, boating, and being with the ones she loved. Her family and friends are thankful for having shared her life. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial services took place Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Unity Christ Church in Golden Valley, following a gathering of family and friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Pat Williamson officiated at the services, with inurnment at the Hope Cemetery in Newell, SD.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
