Haward ‘Pat’ Wendt Obituary – 11/24/2010


Haward “Pat” Sidney Wendt, age 86, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Birchwood House in Hutchinson.

He was born May 21, 1924, in Minnetrista Township, Minnesota, the son of Alois (Albert) and Mathilda (Maass) Wendt. Haward was baptized March 3, 2010, by Pastor Gerhard Bode at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson; and confirmed in his faith as a youth April 8, 1949, by the Rev. John Spomer at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Watertown. He attended St. Bonifacius School.

Haward was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Adams June 3, 1950, at Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. This marriage was blessed with four children, Randal, Susan, Nancy, and Linda.

The couple shared 52 years of marriage, until Evelyn passed away Oct. 31, 2002.

Haward was united in marriage to Sylvia Lysne June 21, 2003, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

A farmer, Haward retired from farming in 1984. He did odd jobs after his retirement.

Over the years, Haward was a resident of Young America, Watertown, Waconia, Lester Prairie and Hutchinson; and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, and Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Haward enjoyed farming, truck driving, fishing, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Wendt of Hutchinson; children Randal Wendt and his wife, Lynn, of New Auburn, WI, Susan Wendt of Sulphur Springs, TX, Nancy Frederickson and her husband, Steve, of New Ulm, and Linda Wendt and her special friend, Gaylord Schueler, of Springfield, MN; grandchildren Kristine Hanson and her husband, Mitch, Sarah Wendt, Jason Wendt, Jesse Wendt, Rachel Goins, Lydia Goins (Bonnett), Elisabeth Goins, Jacob Wendt-Goins, Eric Frederickson, Katie Frederickson, and Sam Frederickson; and great-grandchildren Carter Hanson, Carmyn Hanson, and Conner Hanson.

Haward is further survived by stepbrothers Bob Williamson and his wife, Marie, of Apache Junction, AZ, and John Williamson and his wife, Donna, of Clintonville, WI; stepchildren Carolann Schlechter and her husband, Joe of Glencoe, Linda Crawford and her husband, Brett of Parksville, British Columbia, Canada, and Orlin Lysne of Luverne, MN; step-grandchildren Joe Jr Schlechter, Kari Meyers, Matthew Crawford, Geoffrey Crawford, Lauren Crawford, Mindy Lysne, Jonathan Lysne, Michelle Lysne, and Erica Lysne; step-great-grandchildren Noah Schlechter, Sophie Schlechter, Tia Meyers and Giana Meyers; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Monday, Nov. 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with Pastor Gerhard H. Bode officiating. The organist was Paul Otte, and soloist Jerry Kahle sang “Chief of Sinners Though I be.” Accordion music was provided by Lowell Schubert, who performed a concertina solo. Congregational hymns were “Lift High The Cross,” “In The Garden,” and “Take Thou My Hand And Lead Me.” Interment was in the Watertown City Cemetery in Watertown.

Honorary bearers were grandchildren Kristine Hanson, Mitch Hanson, Sarah Wendt, Jason Wendt, Jesse Wendt, Rachel Goins, Lydia Goins (Bonnett), Elisabeth Goins, Jacob Wendt-Goins, Eric Frederickson, Katie Frederickson, Sam Frederickson; and friend of the family, Gaylord Schueler

Casket bearers were John Boyle, Bruce Bastin, Don Shequen, Joe Schlechter, Marvin Feakes, and Tony Lorber

In addition to his first wife, Evelyn, Haward was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mathilda Wendt; and twin sons.
