Lillian J. Wessman Obituary – 11/29/2010


Lillian Janette Wessman, age 83, of Dassel, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Lillian Janette (Johnson) Wessman, the daughter of Harry and Esther (Mattson) Johnson, was born Sept. 27, 1927 in Dassel. She grew up in Dassel, and graduated from the Dassel High School in 1945. Lillian was baptized at the Dassel Covenant Church, and was a member of the Lamson Evangelical Free Church at the time of her death.

Lillian was united in marriage Sept. 12, 1947, to Daryl Wessman, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. Together, they made their home in the Dassel area, where they farmed. Lillian was a secretary at the Holm Brothers Hardware Store, and later was a secretary for Minnesota Hatchery in Dassel.

Lillian could often be found making rugs or sewing quilts together. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She could often be found deep in a conversation over a cup of coffee. She was always active with the church, attending services and teaching Sunday school. Lillian and Daryl enjoyed traveling and camping,

She is survived by her children, David Wessman of Dassel; Jan and (fiancé, Paul Mielke) Dixon of Delano; and Jon and (Carol) Wessman of Savage; six grandchildren, Sadie Wessman; Jerome Dixon; Meighan Dixon; Adam Dixon; Katie Wessman; and Kyle Wessman; two great-grandchildren, Ari and Teagen Dixon.

She is also survived by her siblings, Ethlyn Carlson of Dassel; Gladys (Wayne) Paulson of Dassel; Clifford (LaRene) Johnson of Dassel; Stuart (Joan) Johnson of Dassel; and a sister-in-law, Annabelle Johnson of Dassel; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one grandson, Zachariah Wessman; and one brother, Elmer Johnson.

Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Lamson Evangelical Free Church in Dassel, with interment at the Cokato City Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lamson Evangelical Free Church in Dassel. Further visitation was at the church Friday, Dec. 3, one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Dassel.
