Arwood ‘Woody’ Yager, 89

Arwood Walter “Woody” Yager, age 89, of Winsted, passed away at his residence Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

He was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Howard Lake, the son of Frederich and Lydia Krohn Yager.

Woody was baptized Sept. 12, 1920, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. He was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith March 24, 1934, at St. James Lutheran Church.

Woody served his country in the US Coast Guard, serving four years during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre. He enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor.

He was joined in holy marriage with Helen I. Drenckhahn Aug. 3, 1947, at Altura, MN. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Woody was formerly self-employed in sales.

He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran church and served on various church boards. A member of St. James Lutheran Church, Woody also belonged to The American Legion since 1954, and was a member of the VFW.

Woody is survived by his loving wife, Helen I. Yager; a son, Greg (Nancy) Yager of Kalispell, MT; five grandchildren: Mitchell Yager, Andrea Yager, Dale Weiman Jr., Tomas Weiman and Jackie Weber; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lorelie Yager and Marcella Yager; son-in-law Dale (Karen) Weiman; other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl; a son, Bruce; brothers Eugene, Harlan and Donald Yager; and sisters Valeria Ernhardt and Lorna Anderson.

Funeral services took place Saturday, May 15 at 11 a..m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Interment with military rites followed at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, May 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Casket bearers were Dale Weiman, Tom Weiman, Jackie Weber, Ross Anderson, Mitchell Yager, and Andrea Yager.
