Caroline Ida Bechtold, age 81, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. She loved to sing and is now singing praises to her Lord and Savior in heaven.
Caroline was born July 17, 1929, in Buffalo, grew up on a dairy farm in Greenfield, graduated from Buffalo High School in 1947, and lived most of her married life in Robbinsdale and New Hope.
She worked for Patio Doors Sales and Service, and volunteered immeasurable hours of service to Salem Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society, Hennepin County Fair, Country Pizza Parlor, and as an election judge.
Caroline was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Greenfield, having been baptized, confirmed, and married there.
She was known for her prolific pie, cookie, and cupcake baking; dill pickle and tomato juice canning, and her Christmas craft creations.
Caroline was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Lillian Harff; and a sister, Dorothy (Richard) Gutknecht.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Willmar; son Timothy (Anne); granddaughter Halley; sisters Marlys (Howard) Schleif, Kathleen (Ronald) Tiemann, Renata (Jack) Russek, and Rita (Duane) Beise; sister-in-law Margaret Schutte; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends that she loved dearly.
The funeral service took place Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Greenfield.
Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church.
