Donald W. Berwald, age 74, of Watertown, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born Aug. 16, 1937, in Watertown, the son of Herman and Lydia (Schaunamann) Berwald, and was baptized as an infant at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. K. Rudolph. He was confirmed March 18, 1951, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. J. Spomer.
A good man, Donny was content with what he had and accepting of his circumstances. He did not always have it easy, but never complained.
Don had a strong work ethic and took pride in every task he performed. He was a kind, loving, and generous person, always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.
A simple person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Don also enjoyed traveling, watching TV, especially football, baseball and basketball games; playing cards, potluck dinners, and shopping at Walmart. He loved to eat, and family would often tease him about being the first in line.
Don loved his Lord and Savior and his loved ones celebrate his life knowing that Don is with Him in eternity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lydia Berwald; and a brother, Marvin Berwald.
Don is survived and sadly missed by sisters and brothers-in-law Verdella and Jim Borrell of Richfield, Dorothy and Elmer Schmidt of Howard Lake, and Sandy and Dennis Wabbe of Watertown; sister-in-law Bonita Berwald of Watertown; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Paul Krentz officiated, and interment followed at Watertown Public Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
