Lawrence David “Skip” Bowman, age 67, of Annandale, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born Sept. 19, 1943, in Luverne, the son of Lawrence M. and Johanna M. (Ahrendt) Bowman. Lawrence was baptized in Luverne Oct. 2, 1943, and later confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.
He attended school at Lyndale Country School, Mound Jr. and Sr. High Schools, and the University of Minnesota, before honorably serving his country in the US Navy.
Lawrence married Darlene A. Hillman June 27, 1970, in Annandale. God blessed their marriage with two children.
Lawrence worked as a buyer for plumbing and heating companies. He enjoyed farming, tractors, reading, and feeding and watching the birds. Lawrence also loved children, and his grandchildren were his number-one joy.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie (David) Huttner of Rogers, and David (Cindy) Bowman of Annandale; grandchildren Andrew Bowman, Ellie Huttner, Joseph Bowman, Luke Huttner, Meredith Bowman and Nicholas Bowman; brothers and sisters, Carl (Dorothy) Bowman of Buffalo, Jennalee Bersie of Delano, and Rosalyn (Gary) Nelson of Yakima, WA; aunts Margaret Bowman of Slayton, and Viola Correll of Hills; an uncle-in-law, Carl (Elnora) Morris of Cokato; and by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene A. (Hillman) Bowman April 3, 1996; his parents; his parents-in-law, Arnold and Doris Hillman; and his brothers-in-law, Ancil Hillman and Gordon Bersie.
The funeral service took place Friday, Feb. 4 at the Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, followed by interment at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Cemetery in Albion Township.
Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, and continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
