Gilbert W. Brueggemeier, age 80, of Carver, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
He was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Dahlgren Township, the son of William J. and Lydia K. (Bussmann) Brueggemeier. Gilbert was baptized Nov. 9, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carver by the Rev. Victor Ostermann, and confirmed March 25, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church in Cologne by the Rev. R.W. Rottmann.
Gilbert was united in marriage to Audrey M. Campbell June 20, 1964, at First Methodist Church by the Rev. Leslie Drake.
A loving husband, dad, and grandpa, Gilbert was a true farmer and loved being on his farm, working the land. He also sold seed corn for DeKalb Corn.
Some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and bowling, and he enjoyed singing with several polka bands throughout the area.
Gilbert was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Benton Twp, Cologne, holding positions on the school board and building committee, and serving as a trustee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lydia Brueggemeier; brother-in-law LeRoy Kuntz; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Caroline Campbell.
Gilbert is survived by his loving family; wife, Audrey; children and spouses, Steven and Hollie Brueggemeier of Waconia, Connie and John Geis of New Prague, and Jeff and Deb Brueggemeier of Carver; grandchildren Megan, Justin, Lydia and Anna Brueggemeier, Andy, Billy and Nick Geis, and Lisa, Sammi and Amber Brueggemeier; sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Gene Streachek of Glencoe; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Dan Parker of Stillwater, and Ken Campbell of Stillwater; as well as other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp., Cologne, with the Rev. Eric Zacharias officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers were Scott Haas, Lee Kuntz, Randy Seck, Justin Brueggemeier, Keric Seck, and Wayne Gestach.
