Dorothy “Dot” Gertrude Campbell, age 81, of Waconia, formerly of Watertown, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Lighthouse of Waconia with her husband by her side.
She was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Delano, to Louis and Frances (Ceryes) Salonek.
Dorothy referred to herself as a blacksmith’s daughter; working in her father’s shop is how she met her husband, George Campbell. This union was blessed with two sons.
Dorothy possessed many skills. She was known for baking, creating celebration cakes, sometimes employing iron work to hold up the tiers. The garden that she and George tended was amazing and award-winning. Sewing custom clothing, wedding dresses, and vestments were just some of the needlework that Dorothy created over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Frances Salonek; a brother, Marvin Salonek; and a brother-in-law, George Swartzer.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, George; sons Rick (Kathy) Campbell, and Jeff Campbell; siblings Irene and Walter Swartzer, Margie and Mylen Cardinal, Rosemary Swartzer, and Izy Salonek.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Joseph Fink officiating. Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the church, and continued Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., prior to the Mass.
Arrangements were by the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.
