Richard Henry Dalen, age 86, of Cokato, formerly of Bloomington, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at his son’s home in Cokato.
He was born July 12, 1924, in Willmar, to Henry and Olive (Greenfield) Dalen. Richard grew up in Willmar and Pennock, and attended Willmar High School.
At age 17, during World War II, he entered the US Navy.
Richard was married to Evelyn Johnson April 11, 1949, in Willmar.
Richard worked for Holiday Inn Hotels, and the family lived in many places: Chicago, Minneapolis, Florida, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas. He retired in Bloomington.
Richard enjoyed fishing and was a golf and baseball fan.
He was a member of the VFW in Robbinsdale.
He is survived by his son, Steven (Debbie) of Cokato; grandchildren Rena (Jim) Snyder of Dassel, Richard (Karola) Dalen of Wrenshall, Danielle Dalen, and Noelle (David) Vernoy, all of Willmar; great-grandchildren Brittany, Brennan, Blake, Brady, Brielle, and Lila; and a sister, Marion Anderson of Springfield, MO.
Richard was preceded in death by: his parents, Henry and Olive; wife Evelyn; significant other Lill Olson; a son, Robert; a great-granddaughter, Blair; and a sister, Dorothy.
A memorial service took place Thursday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at New Life Assembly of God Church in Cokato with Pastor Al Jones officiating. Music was provided by Bonnie Jones. Interment will be in the spring in Willmar.
Arrangements were handled by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
