Milan W. Dammann, 84

Milan Wallace Dammann, age 84, of Lester Prairie, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

He was born Feb. 6, 1927, in Bergen Township, the son of Ewald and Martha (Voss) Dammann. Milan was baptized as an infant Feb. 27, 1927, by the Rev. E. Kolbe; and was confirmed in his faith April 6, 1941, by the Rev. A.F. Vomhof, both at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Milan grew up on the family farm and received his education in Lester Prairie. He was a graduate of the Lester Prairie High School class of 1945.

Milan was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Schmidt May 16, 1969, by the Rev. Norman Steinke at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. The couple made their home on the family farm in Bergen Township, where Milan farmed his whole life.

Milan retired in 2008, at which time they moved to Lester Prairie. Milan and Barbara shared over 42 years of marriage.

Milan was a lifelong member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

He enjoyed working on the farm, painting, his John Deere classic tractors, country music, and attending country music concerts. Milan cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dammann of Lester Prairie; a brother, Maynard Dammann and his wife, Mabel, of Lester Prairie; nieces Jane Dietel and her husband, Dale, of Lester Prairie, Laurie Griesmann and her husband, Guy, of Oronoco, Kathy Baumann and her husband, David, and Marla Birkholz and her husband, Gordon Jr., all of Lester Prairie; a nephew, Maurice Dammann and his wife, Christine, of Lester Prairie; and other relatives and friends.

Milan was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Martha Dammann.

Funeral services took place Monday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. David Erbel officiated. Music was provided by organist Marsha Christenson, and soloist Ralph Prehn, who sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “Amazing Grace,” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Casket bearers were Gary Ernst, Larry Ide, Dale Dietel, David Baumann, Gordon Birkholz Jr., Maurice Dammann, and Guy Griesmann.
