Marian E. Dobratz, 82

Marian Ernestine Dobratz, age 82, of Hutchinson, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

She was born June 4, 1929, in Winsted, the daughter of Victor and Esther (Zimmerman) Miller. Marian was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

She received her education in Winsted, and was a graduate of the Holy Trinity Catholic School class of 1947.

Marian was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Dobratz June 24, 1953, at the Dobratz Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with three children, David, Kathy and Karen.

Marian and Dick resided in Hutchinson. They shared over 45 years of marriage until Dick passed away March 16, 1999.

Marian was employed as a salesperson at the Dobratz Furniture Store/Hennen Furniture Store in Hutchinson, where she decorated houses for other people.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson.

Marian was also a member of the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary, Hutchinson American Legion Post 96 Auxiliary, and National Home Fashion League.

Marian enjoyed cooking, baking, volunteering, vacationing, and entertaining. She truly loved going out with friends for lunch and shopping, and shared a special friendship with her Bridge Club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Marian became a resident of Waconia Good Samaritan Center July 12, 2011.

She is survived by her son, David Dobratz of Hutchinson, daughters Kathy Johnson and her husband, Dave of Alexandria, and Karen Peterson of Waconia; grandchildren Adam Johnson and his wife, Jill of Alexandria, Erik Peterson of Hutchinson, and Amy Peterson of St. Cloud; great-grandchildren Levi and Ian; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Marian was preceded in death by her father, Victor Miller; mother Esther Nuttall; stepfather John Nuttall; and a brother, Reuben Miller, and his wife, Alice.

A memorial service took place Thursday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with interment at the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. The Rev. Brian Brosz officiated, Kathy Johnson read the eulogy, Sharon Barton was the pianist, and soloist Joe McPherson sang “The Dance” and “Softly and Tenderly.” Pastor Brian Brosz sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” The congregational hymn was “In The Garden.” Urn bearer was David Dobratz.
