Vera Christine Ernst, age 94, of Glencoe, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Glencoe Regional Health Services-Long Term Care.
She was born July 2, 1916, in Helen Township, Plato, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Mueller) Boesche. Vera was baptized as an infant July 16, 1916, and was later confirmed in her faith April 13, 1930, both by the Rev. R. Zwintscher at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato.
Vera received her education at St. John’s Parochial School, rural District 57.
Vera was united in marriage to Vernon Ernst Oct. 10, 1937, by the Rev. R. Ehlen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato. This marriage was blessed with two children, Ardys and David.
The couple made their home and farmed in Bergen Township from 1938 to 1980. In 1980, they moved to Glencoe.
Vera and Vernon shared 61 years of marriage, until Vernon passed away Oct. 16, 1998.
A loving homemaker and mother, Vera enjoyed gardening, quilting, ceramics, and card playing, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. She especially cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Vera was involved in Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Home Extension Group.
Vera is survived by her children, Ardys Tallarico of St. Paul, and David Ernst and his wife, Sharol, of Glencoe; grandchildren Mark Tallarico and his wife, Milissa of Shoreview, Kimberly Tallarico-Vogel and her husband, Michael of Wyoming, Todd Tallarico of St. Paul, Christine Ehnstrom and her husband, Bill, of Cottage Grove, Torrey Ernst and his wife, Amy of Eagan, and Tristin Sprengeler and her husband, James, of Plato; great-grandchildren Anthony Tallarico and Nicole Tallarico, Angela Vogel, Vincent Ehnstrom, Natalia Ehnstrom, Alexandra Ernst Tyler Ernst, Parker Sprengeler, and Preston Sprengeler; and step-great-grandchildren Brittany and Kevin Vogel.
She is further survived by a sister, Sarah Terlinden of Glencoe; sister-in-law Laura Boesche of Chanhassen; brother-in-law Ruben Ernst and his wife, Virginia of Glencoe; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Vernon, Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Boesche; son-in-law, Edmund Tallarico; sisters Eldora Engelmann and her husband, Herbert, Clara Dammann and her husband Arnold, Lois Bargmann and her husband, Walter, and Martha Bergquist and her husband, Carl H.; a brother, Victor Boesche; brothers and Sisters-in-law Clifford Terlinden; Marvin Ernst and wife, Erna, Lillian Eggers and husband William, and Bernice Ernst.
Funeral services took place Saturday, March 26 at noon at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. David Erbel officiating. Music was provided by organist Nancy Buckentin, and soloist RaNaye Odegaard, who sang, “In The Garden.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “Borning Cry,” and “Lift High The Cross.” Interment followed at the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Mark Tallarico, Kimberly Tallarico-Vogel, Todd Tallarico, Christine Ehnstrom, Torrey Ernst, and Tristin Sprengeler.
