Evelyn L. Fenske, 91

Evelyn L. Fenske, age 91, of Waconia, formerly of Lester Prairie, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Waconia.

She was born July 11, 1919, in Lester Prairie, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Birkholz) Lampher. Evelyn was baptized as an infant July 27, 1919, by the Rev. W. Baumhoefner, and was later confirmed in her faith, April 9, 1933, by the Rev. J.A. Schert, both at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

She received her education at St. Peter Bergens School.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Rollin Fenske Sept. 13, 1941, by the Rev. A.F. Vomhof at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. This marriage was blessed with four children, Jim, Floyd, Phyllis, and John.

They shared 37 years of marriage, until Rollin passed away Feb. 24, 1979.

In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Evelyn held employment as an LPN at both the Glencoe and Lester Prairie nursing homes and at St. Mary’s Hospital in Winsted. She also worked at Fred Holasek’s Greenhouse.

Evelyn was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She was also a member of the Lester Prairie American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered at the McLeod County Food Shelf in Glencoe.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, canning, baking, reading, gardening and keeping track of the family history. Evelyn especially cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn resided in Lester Prairie until moving to The Lighthouse in Waconia. When she needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Good Samaritan Care Center in Waconia.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Jim Fenske of Long Lake, Floyd Fenske and his wife, Ann, of Lester Prairie, Phyllis Pivorun and her husband, Edward, of Clemson, SC, and John Fenske and his wife, Jackie, of Plymouth; grandchildren Kristen Fenske-Lange and her husband, Dan Lange, of Howard Lake, Angie Dobey and her husband, Ryan, of Waverly, and Paul Fenske and his wife, Kristi, of Silver Lake; great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Zachary Fenske, and Christopher and Ava Dobey; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Rollin, she was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ida Lampher; sisters Agnes Rolf and her husband, Bill, and Rufina McCurdy and her husband Howard; and brothers Edward Lampher and his wife, Lillie, George Lampher and his wife, Orbina, and Clarence Lampher.

Funeral services took place Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Marsha Christenson was the organist. Congregational hymns were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Amazing Grace,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Casket bearers were Paul Fenske, Ryan Dobey, Dan Lange and Zachary Fenske.
