Walter Lenvick Foer, age 79, of Dassel, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Mobridge, SD, the son of Ole and Clara (Irvin) Foer. Walter grew up and attended school in the Mobridge area.
At the age of 17, Walter moved to Cokato and lived with his uncle, until he enlisted into the US Army Air Corps, serving for several years before he was discharged.
Walter reenlisted in the US Air Force and retired after serving his country for 20 years.
He then moved back to the Dassel area and was employed as a mechanic for UPS, retiring from UPS after 31 years of employment.
Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, and attending family reunions and other events. He was an avid fisherman, collected guns, and liked spending time at the ranch in South Dakota, where he enjoyed, farming, branding cattle, and working hard. He could also often be found shaking dice with his friends at the Third Street Café in Dassel.
His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a very important part of his life, and he will be deeply missed by his loved ones.
Walter is survived by his children, Walter (Lorna) Foer of Dayton, OH, Kathryn (David Aboud) Foer-Aboud of Columbia Heights, Patty (Steven) Webb of Dayton, OH, and Pamela (Chris) Schaeffer of Ramsey; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donis Jonquist of North Branch.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Foer; his parents; a sister, Elsie Hawkins; and two brothers, Hedley Foer and Rober Foer
Visitation took place Wednesday evening, May 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
The funeral service will take place in Minneapolis at a later date, with interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis.
