A memorial service is planned to remember Laton and Marlys Gilbert, who both passed away in the past year.
The memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. at Elim Mission Church in Cokato, 406 Broadway Avenue South. Family and friends are welcome to stay for a light lunch following the service.
Laton passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011; followed by Marlys Friday, Dec. 9, 2011.
Laton was born April 3, 1921, in Buffalo, to George and Ellen Gilbert.
The daughter of David and Mabel Blad, Marlys was born June 15, 1924, in Hector.
Both graduated from Buffalo High School, and they were married Dec. 31, 1942.
From 1942 to 1970, they farmed in Minnesota; and five sons were born into their family.
During this time, besides farming, Laton was transportation coordinator for the Howard Lake School District, and Marlys worked for Carlson Companies. The family attended and was active in the Albion Evangelical Free Church, rural Cokato.
In 1970, they moved to California with their youngest son, Tom. There, Laton was a transportation coordinator and also worked in the money order division of a bank; and Marlys sold real estate.
Their last 12 years were spent in Turlock, CA, where they enjoyed time with family, lived at Covenant Village, and worshiped at the Turlock Covenant Church.
Laton and Marlys are survived by five sons, Gary and his wife, Sharon, of Henning; Bruce and his wife, Sandy, of Plymouth; Jim of Turlock, CA; Ron and his wife, Gene, of Howard Lake; and Tom of Concord, CA; a sister, Sharon, and her husband, Stan Diers, of Howard Lake; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Turlock Memorial Park in California. Memorials can be given to Turlock Covenant Church, 316 S Laurel St, Turlock, CA 95380 or the Benevolent Fund of Covenant Village of Turlock, 2125 N Olive Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.
